Mutua Madrileña · Madrid

Recently the reform of the new façade of a landmark building owned by the insurance company Mutua Madrileña, located in one of the main avenues in  Madrid, Paseo de la Castellana, was finished.

The renowned architectural studio A-cero, owned by Joaquin Torres and Rafael Llamazares, was commissioned to carry out the reform and give a new look to the landmark building.

Besides the building architectural reform, other important part of the development was been the Lighting Project.

The Grupo MCI proposal was to outline the 25 wavy edges with SmartLedFlex® Blue, to emphasize the corporate color of the company, and to enhance the architectural character of the building.

In total Grupo MCI installed 700 meters of SmartLedFlex® (7,000 points of Led’s) with a consumption of 6.600 W (9,6 W/m).

SmartLedFlex® is a flexible linear lighting product for both indoor and outdoor (IP66) applications. It is perfect for archi-tectural illumination that provides a high performance homogenous light to highlight the perimeters and outlines of buildings, bridges, etc.

SmartLedFlex® has 100 LEDs/m. SMD Nichia Side View enclosed in special flexible polymer material, which allow the product to be bent into different winding shapes and the product is protected against UV rays thanks to the silicone outer shell.

The product is available in a wide range of colors and two versions: square and round.

As you can see on the A-cero blog (see blog): “This reform is part of an existing building of the property wanted to give it a new look and improve its livability.

The intervention is limited to modifying the skin of the building and the placement of the elements to give it a more dynamic aspect. The new skin, in aluminum panels, is placed on all existing facades without altering its volume or floor area.

In the main facade the new skin tries to achieve a curvature to give a feeling of undulation while on the side walls A-cero looks for protruding elements on the current plane and in the top panel the stiffness breaks”.
